Knocked-Out Tooth: What to Do in Santa Maria
If a adult tooth has come completely out, seek dental care immediately. Call Everly Dental while arranging care. If we cannot see you promptly, contact another available emergency dentist or endodontist.
Urgent visits during business hours, subject to availability.

THE FIRST PRIORITY
Act immediately. The AAE recommends reaching a dentist or endodontist within 30 minutes when possible. Do not give up if more time has passed.
ACT IMMEDIATELY
A knocked-out adult tooth cannot wait.
Handle only the crown
Pick up the tooth by the visible chewing portion, not the root. If dirty, rinse it briefly and gently with water; do not scrub, dry, or use chemicals.
Keep an adult tooth moist
If it is clearly a adult tooth and can be replaced easily, gently return it to the socket. Do not force it. Otherwise place it in milk or a tooth-preservation solution; do not wrap it in tissue or store it in tap water.
Get dental help now
Bring the tooth and tell the dental team when the injury occurred and how it was stored. Never delay seeking care while waiting for an online appointment response.
If it is a baby tooth—or you are unsure
Do not put a knocked-out baby tooth back into its socket. Replanting it can damage the developing adult tooth. If you cannot tell which kind of tooth it is, keep it moist and get immediate guidance from a dentist.
For a child or anyone at risk of swallowing or inhaling the tooth, use a container rather than holding the loose tooth inside the mouth.
What happens at the dental visit?
The dentist assesses the tooth, socket, and surrounding injuries. A adult tooth may be replanted and stabilized, with follow-up appointments needed to monitor healing. Additional treatment, including root canal care, may be considered.
How long the tooth was out, its storage conditions, and the injury itself affect the outcome. Prompt care can improve the chance of keeping the tooth, but whether the tooth can be saved depends on the injury.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Answers before your visit
What if the tooth is loose but still attached?
Avoid wiggling or pulling it. A displaced or loose tooth after trauma needs prompt professional assessment. Explain whether your bite feels different.
Is it too late after 30 minutes?
Seek care immediately even if more than 30 minutes have passed. Only a dentist can assess the options; time alone should not stop you from seeking help.
Should I use the online form?
Call and seek immediate dental care for a knocked-out tooth. An online appointment request is not an emergency response service.
